Looks like this train might finally be leaving the station. After confirming Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as True Detective’s season 2 leads, HBO has put out an offer to The Notebook star, Rachel McAdams. Variety claims McAdams was the standout over rumored competition Malin Akerman and Jessica Biel. Additionally, Taylor Kitsch is “expected to land the fourth lead role” (both McAdams and Kitsch will play cops) So, sigh of relief, or meh?
I have no problem seeing Farrell fitting into True Detective’s gritty world, and though I’m not at all a Vaughn fan, I’m trying to keep an open mind. As for McAdams, Iet’s go with cautiously optimistic? The real question here is whether Nic Pizzolatto can pull off another compelling round without the giant star power he had last time around. Did he learn any lessons about adding in unnecessary mythology and rearranging other authors’ themes; is he the real deal, or just a lucky guy? I guess we’ll find out.
Director Justin Lin will direct the first two episodes of Season 2; filming begins this fall.
