After ditching the last two seasons of Community to pursue his career as his hip-hop alter ego, Childish Gambino, Donald Glover is set to return to television. He’ll star in Atlanta, a new FX series due out this fall that Glover created and writes himself, which follows two cousins as they climb up the Atlanta rap scene. Here’s the first promo for the series.

I’ve seen the pilot, and without saying anything else, it wasn’t for me. It was weird, as in, it’s not entirely grounded in reality, and it may be a tough sell for FX. Glover once described it as such: “So, like, I feel like the tone of this is, like, an ever it’s going to take time for people to understand what’s going on, which I think is a good thing.”

Maybe a good thing, if those people are willing to stick around long enough to grasp an understanding. There may be a reason, however, why the network has been sitting on the series for awhile.
