He may be have been all fuckity-bye on The Thick of It, he may have been the biggest asshole Dad on TV in Skins, and he may be the biggest jerk of the 12 Doctors on Doctor Who, but Peter Capaldi, the man, is a total sweetheart, as this video message attests. Here, he delivered a video message to a 9-year-old with Autism, Thomas, on the day before the funeral of his nanny, helping him to “deal with the grief in a profound way.”

Capaldi’s a good man, y’all, and we’re lucky to have him on our television screens.

Tune in tonight for the second part of the Doctor Who finale.
