People Are Starting to Talk About That 'Fantastic Four' Reboot No One Is Talking About

I am fascinated by what must be going on with the Fantastic Four reboot, which stars Kate Mara, Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell. It’s due out in August of this year, and yet, no one is talking about it much. A big part of that is because there has been nothing released: No promo images. No teaser. No trailers. No character posters. No nothing. It’s less than eight months away, and typically, studios like to start promoting their films a year or more in advance.

There are rumors that things are a mess behind the scenes, and that the studio is essentially going to bury it, in a manner of speaking. However, some are suggesting that a trailer could premiere ahead of Matthew Vaughn’s The Kingsmen on February 13th (Vaughn is a producer on the reboot).

Meanwhile, both Vaughn and Mark Millar have seen all or some of the reboot, and have nice-ish things to say.

Here’s what Matthew Vaughn said, via Screenrant:

“I’ve seen the movie, it’s good… I thought Chronicle was a fantastic movie and [Josh] Trank has gone off and done his version of Fantastic Four. If you like Chronicle, then you’ll like this… We’re all backing Josh Trank’s vision… And hopefully the world will like Josh Trank’s vision.”

I liked Chronicle very much! But the whole “I’ve seen the movie, it’s good ….” is not the most convincing argument for its merits, especially when he immediately jumps to how great Chronicle was. It sounds like a trail off.

Meanwhile, Mark Millar, who is a “consultant” on the reboot, has seen parts of it, too (via FlickeringMyth)

“I’ve seen little bits, but not the full [movie],” Millar told us. “There is a cut, but I haven’t seen it yet”.

“Everything I’ve seen looks good. I think Josh Trank is such a brilliant director that I sort of relaxed about it. I think it will work out good.”

I’m hearing lots of “good,” but I’m not hearing a lot of enthusiasm, except for the director, Trank.

“I think Fox are very wise to spend money on directors and I think Josh has got a voice. I loved Chronicle. It came out the same year as The Avengers - and it was my favourite superhero movie that year. Which is a big thing! So, I feel good about it - it will be interesting.”

“Good!” “Interesting!” “I feel good about it!” Oh and also, in a maybe unrelated now, Josh is brilliant.

Well, that’s not the hugest vote of confidence, is it?
