OH HELL YES. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn Is Getting That 'Suicide Squad' Spinoff

I wouldn’t have thought it possible for Warner Bros. to announce a Suicide Squad sequel that I’d be excited about, but they’ve done it!

Whether you loved the movie (I’m sure there were a few people who did, right?) or hated it, we can all agree that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn was one of the few elements actually worth watching. (The others being Will Smith and Viola Davis, obvs.) Pretty much every moment of Suicide Squad that wasn’t focused on her was a waste of a screen. The fix for this franchise is obvious then: Give Harley her own movie.

And that’s exactly what they’re doing.

According to THR, Margot Robbie will be starring in AND producing the movie, which will have Harley anchoring a group (perhaps even a squad, if you will) of female DC characters.

Warner Bros. is doing a decently kickass job of actually pushing (rather than just talking about pushing, like so many other studios) female-driven projects. This Harley movie is part of a two-picture deal for Robbie, who will also star in a period trapeze artist movie called Queen of the Air. The studio is also currently developing Wonder Woman, Ocean’s Ocho, and their Emerging Film Directors Workshop is said to focus on fostering “underrepresented talent.”

So what do we want in a Harley-led, female-focused spinoff? First of all, no Joker, please. What a waste of screen time he was in Suicide Squad. His entire role (like Batman’s cameo) was pointless and seemed to exist because the studio didn’t trust that audiences would be fine watching a comic book movie that lacked any “big” characters. Now that Harley has proven herself to be a major box office draw, let’s leave Leto out of this one.

If we need a sexy, complicated love story, may I suggest an alternative?

And finally… more aerial yoga would be totally welcome. Just saying.
