If you don’t have cable, become more and more difficult to choose between Netflix and Amazon Prime, to the point really where both may be necessary. In addition to these 10 great TV series that are exclusive to Amazon, Amazon will now have exclusive rights to HBO programming, although for newer series, you’ll have to wait (and I doubt that Game of Thrones will be a part of the package anytime soon).
Here’s the statement from the press release:
The collection includes award-winning shows such as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Big Love, Deadwood, Eastbound & Down, Family Tree, Enlightened, Treme, early seasons of Boardwalk Empire and True Blood, as well as mini-series like Band of Brothers, John Adams and more. Previous seasons of other HBO shows, such as Girls, The Newsroom and Veep will become available over the course of the multi-year agreement, approximately three years after airing on HBO. The first wave of content will arrive on Prime Instant Video May 21.
In addition, HBO GO will become available on Fire TV by the end of the year. I’m guessing that you’ll still need a traditional HBO subscription to access it, but it could pave the way toward a stand-alone HBO GO service in the future.
In related news, if you haven’t seen these spots for HBO GO yet, they are the best.
