Nothing To Fear About The Man Without Fear: Daredevil Moves Back To Marvel Studios, Saves Us From Further Nightmares

This really is the best possible news. I admire Ben Affleck for bringing a character that he loved to life, but Mark Steven Johnson really just fucked the dog on his Daredevil adaptation. It’s what he does. He fucks dogs and movies are birthed from it. Because Mark Steven Johnson is a fucking hack, and with Fox as the studio behind it, the project really should have just died in the womb.

Anyway. The good news is that come October, Fox’s rights to the property will expire, and should that happen (which is extremely likely at this point), Daredevil will return to Marvel studios. Fox had tapped Joe Carnahan to direct a reboot, and Carnahan had apparently pitched a gritty, 70’s-era version that was based on the outstanding “Born Again” storyline, but Fox stalled, the project died, and now Daredevil is going nowhere at Fox (despite Marvel giving Fox multiple extensions to try to put a project together).

This is a good thing. Fox has proven time and again that they have no goddamn clue how to make a decent comic book adaptation, other than the X-Men, and they still managed to botch that one occasionally. Marvel Studios, on the other hand, is a damn juggernaut right now, and they’ve been releasing solid projects ever since Iron Man. So for me, as a lifelong Daredevil fan, this is excellent news. The character is an excellent one, filled with pathos and darkness and a sense of tragic heroism. I’d love to see him brought to life competently. Without cringe-inducing see-saw flirting.

God, that movie sucked.

Anyway, not that it makes a difference now, but these are the sizzle reels that Carnahan put together for his pitch to Fox. There’s no actual new footage here, but rather it’s cobbled together from random clips and comic book art, more to give a sense of feel than anything else. There’s an NC-17 one (the first one) and then a PG-13 one for you Suzy Sensitives.
