Look, there was a lot going on this weekend. Game of Thrones returned, a woman got the key to the TARDIS, and I dunno, tennis happened? Meanwhile Disney was hosting its annual fan event, the D23 Expo, in Anaheim and dropping news bombs left and right. So in case you were out “doing things” and missed all the excitement, we thought we’d round up the juiciest bits that made us go “squee” — like a public service announcement, but with mouse ears.
Holy Shit That’s A Lot Of Princesses: Wreck-It Ralph 2 Edition
Officially titled Ralph Breaks The Internet, the sequel to Wreck-It Ralph is making the most of its Disney bonafides by adding Star Wars and basically all the Disney princesses to its video game mash-up world. The follow-up takes Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope (Sarah Silverman) out of the arcade and into the realm of massively multiplayer online gaming — specifically OhMy.Disney.com, natch — where they meet a digital trendsetter named Yesss (voiced by Taraji P. Henson, Empire). In footage revealed at D23, Vanellope encounters a group of Disney princess… most of them VOICED BY THE ORIGINAL ACTORS. From Cinderella, Belle, Jasmine, Rapunzel and Ariel to Merida, Moana, Elsa, and more, there will be a lot of Disney royalty to enjoy. Mulan even pulls her sword on Vanellope! Then they brought out a lot of those voice actors for one massive real-life Disney Princess photo!
They Announced The Cast Of The Live-Action Aladdin And There Wasn’t A Tom Hardy In The Bunch
Guy Ritchie’s upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin has found its core cast! Will Smith is filling the giant shoes — er, giant blue smoke trail? — of Robin Williams as he takes on the role of Genie, which frankly sounds perfect. We Overlords humbly request a Fresh Prince rap song for the end credits. But it’s the relative newcomers who will play the central pair of lovers that have people really excited. Mena Massoud (Amazon’s Jack Ryan series) will play everyone’s favorite sexy street rat, and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers) will play Princess Jasmine. No word yet on Jafar, but so far so good guys.
The Avengers Keep Assembling To Take On Thanos
Marvel brought out Josh Brolin, their Mad Titan, to face off against the rest of the heroes of the MCU on stage (seriously, they paraded basically everyone out: Robert Downey Jr., Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Pom Klementieff, Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Don Cheadle, Sebastian Stan, and Anthony Mackie). They also showed an exclusive teaser trailer for Avengers: Infinity War that hasn’t made its way online yet, though there are numerous blow-by-blow accounts available. All we’ll spoil is that apparently the Guardians of the Galaxy hit Thor with their spaceship. SHUT UP AND TAKE OUR MONEY DISNEY!
In videos we can share, here is Mark Ruffalo explaining why there likely won’t be a standalone Hulk movie anytime soon, while Don Cheadle trolls him mercilessly, proving once again that Don Cheadle is the most relatable man in Hollywood.
And finally, in case you missed it, the first teaser for Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time can be seen here.
