I’ll say this for Tarsem Singh — he knows how to make a beautiful film. The trick is, of course, that he’s still figuring out how to make a good film. His history to date consists of two lush, gorgeous, and deeply flawed films — The Cell and The Fall. His next film, Immortals (previously titled War of the Gods) has an impressive cast and an interesting premise based in Greek mythology:
“A purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.”
On the one hand, it can’t be any worse than the misguided Clash of the Titans remake. On the other hand… well, we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, the first images from the film have been released. Take a gander (click to enlarge):
Immortals stars Kellan Lutz, Mickey Rourke, John hurt, Stephen Dorff and Freida Pinto, among others.
