I went back and re-watched TRON recently, and had a reaction similar to the esteemed Priscuits in his review. For those who saw it back in the day, it was a source of wonderment. That wonderment is still there, albeit in a more nostalgia-based sense. The sequel, TRON: Legacy, due out December 17th, has me intrigued. Director Joseph Kosinski (in his first feature film — he’s mostly done commercial and music video work) seems to have nailed the precarious balance of nostalgic throwback and implentation of the ample new technologies available today. The cast is cool. Jeff Bridges is back, apparently playing two people. It’s got Michael fucking Sheen.
And, of course, Daft Punk on the soundtrack, which is the most natural and logical pairing of movies and music in the history of the universe.
Which brings us to the newest trailer/music video, which features some funky footage from the film set to one of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter’s pieces from the soundtrack.
It is suitably awesome. Mostly because of the music, which I love and would get me to the theater on its own merits. I’m something of a fan, obviously. But that aside, the movie simply looks like a brightly colored ball of cool and fun, and I’m down with that.
Whatever. I’m babbling. Watch the goddamn trailer.
The money shot at the end, with the hang glider-whatever-the-hell thingamajagger? Pretty sweet.
