This seems bad.
A month ago New Mutants was pushed from April 2018 to February 2019. Fox was insisting that director Josh Boone put a new character into the movie; we speculated it was a Kitty Pryde introduction. Now Collider is reporting that New Mutants is getting two new characters, with the flick being reshot to make it even scarier.
“I do think that there is a great responsibility to make sure the movie is done right and that we deliver the fans something that they can all feel happy about and excited about. So, I don’t think it being delayed is a bad thing because it’s definitely more important to make sure that we get it right than rushing to make a date. So, hopefully, all of these reshoots and adding of the new character that will give the fans an altogether satisfactory, wonderful product.” - Ana Taylor-Joy
Oh. The new release date is August 2, 2019. There is definitely no rush now.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been moved from November 2018 to February 14, 2019, due to reshoots. Fox is saying that like Deadpool 2 and New Mutants, test audiences like the films but they need additional scenes added. Dark Phoenix stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Sophie Turner, and Evan Peters — actors with pretty busy schedules. Collider is reporting that scheduling conflicts made it impossible to complete reshoots until September, which would not leave enough time to get the movie ready for release in November of this year.
I suppose I buy that. But this seems really bad, doesn’t it? Do you think they’ll botch Dark Phoenix in two movies over a span of 13 years?
