Though the fate of perennially low-rated The Mindy Project is still very much an open question after last week’s season/series finale, we now know that at least New Girl has been picked up for a fifth season. The series waned during the lackluster Nick and Jess third season, and has picked up some this season, although it may never be quite as good as it was in the second season again. Had it not been renewed, I’d have been sad to see it go, but not crushed.
However, knowing that John Cho — most recently of the underappreciated Selfie — was being added to the cast next season, I would have been heartbroken to see it go. Cho will step in for at least one — and probably more — episodes as a guy that Jess meets during a stint on jury duty. Taran Killam will also have a guest arc next season.
Damon Wayans, Jr., meanwhile, will be leaving the show at the end of the season, as has been previously reported.
