Lately it seems like all the news about who will be hosting The Daily Show after Jon Stewart’s departure is just a growing list of correspondents yelling “Not me!” for different reasons. But now, we have a change! According to Variety, “a person familiar with the matter” has said that there is a new front runner in the race for Jon Stewart’s soon to be vacant seat, and it’s one of the newcomers this year; South African Trevor Noah.
Noah’s first appearance was this past December with this “Spot the Africa” segment highlighting misperceptions about African nations, as well as poverty in America:
Here he is last week, introduced as the Senior International Correspondent, discussing chess:
Noah’s got a great sense of humor, and while he’s not as familiar a face as Samantha Bee or Jessica Williams, there’s time to get viewers used to him before Stewart leaves and it would give the show a different flavor to be hosted by a non-American. Nothing has been confirmed and no one is willing to put their name to this, but as this is the first of the correspondents that we’ve heard of that’s actually eligible and apparently interested in the gig, perhaps we should all get used to the idea of hearing our fake news in that lovely accent.
