New Casting Possibilities for PP&Z, New Adam Sandler Projects, and the Next "Scream"?
Two more possibilities have popped up as potential leads in Pride Prejudice and Zombies, which has recently been taken over from David O. Russell by Mike White. Now, Anne Hathaway is being considered for Elizabeth Bennett and James McAvoy for Darcy.
— Note that, two days ago on Twitter, the Hollywood Cog also suggested that Anne Hathaway could potentially take on the role of Barbarella in a remake that will probably never, ever happen (both Robert Rodriguez and Robert Luketic, who were previously attached to direct, are no longer involved). It’s been stuck in development hell for years, and there’s no real reason to believe that Hathaway’s involvement will get it unstuck.
Adam Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison, is developing and Sandler is currently attached to Narco, a remake of a 2004 French film, The Secret Adventures of Gustave Klopp. The movie is about a man who suffers from narcolepsy. He leads a very mundane life, except that when he falls asleep, he has action hero dreams. He works on trying to find a way to make his real life more like his dream life. Clay Tarver (Joyride) is working the screenplay.
— There is also reportedly an offer out to Adam Sandler to play the lead in the long in development $40,000 Man, written by “Freaks and Geeks” John Daley.
Sony Pictures is eying Salma Hayek for the romantic lead in Kevin James’ untitled MMA project, which is being written by Alan Loeb. It’s about a physics teacher whose school is facing cutbacks. In order to save the music teacher’s job, James moonlights as an MMA fighter. Bas Rutten is also being considered for the role of one of the MMA fighters (which would make sense because Rutten is doing voicework in James’ Zookeeper and also appeared in Paul Blart: Mall Cop). If Hayek is cast (no offer is officially out), it would be Hayek’s second movie with James, after Grown Ups.
Sidney Kimmell is producing Butterfly, a re-imagining of Madame Butterfly set in New York City. It is being developed as a potential starring role for Alicia Keys.
Finally, Mandate Pictures is developing Cineplex, a movie based on a pitch envisioning the horror movie as the next Scream. It’s about a group of teens watching a horror movie who are taken by surprise when the villain of the film attacks them in real life.
As always, developing projects are in a constant state of flux; consider all of the above to be speculative until such time as filming actually begins on any of the above projects.
