News broke yesterday that the fifth season of Arrested Development is definitely happening. In an interview with USA Today, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos discusses the company’s future including some expansions and its current content:

Sarandos is also “positive” that another season of Arrested Development is in the offing: “It’s just a matter of when,” he says, adding that sorting out actors’ schedules is a concern: It was “a fair criticism” of last year’s revival of the cult comedy “that the cast didn’t appear on screen often enough together.”

I’m not unhappy with the news that the fifth season is impending, but here’s my bigger concern: was it ever a possibility that they wouldn’t make the fifth season? I actually liked the fourth season, and didn’t have that much of a problem with the cast being apart. My only real complaint was that the plots seemed to be all set-up and no resolution. I understand why they needed to catch up and reestablish characters, but nothing much happened.

So I always thought they’d make the fifth season with maybe an avant garde movie thrown in after just for kicks. And now they’re telling me there was a chance that we wouldn’t have those plots resolved? We might not find out what it was that Michael did that was so terrible? Or who Rebel Alley chooses? Or what happened to Lucille II?

Because if that is true I will go to Hollywood, I will find Ted Sarandos, and I when I do, he will (bleep) … (long bleep) … and you might not think a pineapple could inflict that kind of damage, but (bleep) …
