On the heels of its recent Emmy-worthy series, Bloodline, Netflix has announced the addition of another original — a supernatural mystery (sounds like it might be heading into X-Files territory) about a young boy’s strange disappearance.

Created by the Duffer Brothers (Hidden), the eight-part series Montauk — set in the same idyllic Long Island resort town as Showtime’s The Affair — kicks off with the disappearance of a boy who “vanishes into thin air.” Here’s the press release:

“As friends, family, and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces, and one very strange little girl. Montauk is a love letter to the 80s classics that captivated a generation.”

Netflix Vice President of Programming, Cindy Holland added, “Matt and Ross [Duffer] are emerging filmmakers with an unmistakable passion for genre and suspense. Their unique voice infuses this coming of age drama with Supernatural thrills that will captivate our global audience.”

The Duffer (twin) brothers graduated college in 2011 and had their spec script for Hidden snatched right up by Warner Bros. (nice!). The film, starring Alexander Skarsgård and Andrea Riseborough, will be released sometime this year. They’ll write and direct Montauk, expected to premiere on Netflix in 2016.
