Netflix Has Released Our First Look At 'Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp'
I, like so many other young people in the late 90s, adored The State when it aired on MTV. I would record episodes on VHS for endless hours of rewatching. I even convinced teachers to let me bring in the tapes and view them after finals. Obsessed? YES. I still follow the careers of the cast and will try anything they are involved in. Like Wet Hot American Summer.
Netflix is giving us the prequel to the cult flick in an eight episode series. Set in 1981, it follows a group of camp counselors at Camp Firewood. So, does prequel mean different actors will play McKinley or Susie or Andy? Nope. It means that the cast that was too old to be teenagers at summer camp 14 years ago are now definitely too old to be teenagers at summer camp…14 years ago?
At any rate, here’s a teaser that actually lives up to the concept of a teaser, as it only shows us names and a familiar location.
Production is underway and David Wain is currently directing Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Michael Ian Black, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Joe LoTruglio, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Michael Showalter, Molly Shannon, H. Jon Benjamin, Nina Hellman, A.D. Miles, Marisa Ryan, Kevin Sussman, Michaela Watkins, Josh Charles, John Slattery, Randall Park, Lake Bell , Jayma Mays, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, and Richard Schiff.
