Netflix Has Given Jessica Jones a New BFF and Boy Is She a Hellcat, Ba Dum Tsh
Marvel has just announced another addition to Netflix’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones. We just found out that David Tennant will play the loathsome Kilgrave, which supported the assumption that the miniseries would be following the story of Brian Michael Bendis’ Alias books. But the addition of Patricia “Patsy” Walker (aka Motherf*cking HELLCAT) is a derparture from those stories. According to Marvel,
Trish is a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as “Patsy” Walker. As Jessica Jones’ closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica’s career.Patsy was originally a teen girls’ comic book character in the 40s.
But in the 70s, she was reinvented as…
This makes sense, since after Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist get their own series out of the way, they’re presumably all going to return for the Defenders series. And Hellcat was a core Defender.
I’m always excited for more female friendships on television, but one thing is nagging at me. Patsy will be played by Rachael Taylor, of Grey’s Anatomy and that Charlie’s Angels TV reboot from 2011 that I forgot was a thing.
Now no knocks against Rachael Taylor, but first Jimmy Olsen, now blonde Patsy Walker? It sure is a tough time to be a redhead in comics, isn’t it?
