Until about five minutes ago, I’d never heard of the website Movie Body Counts. It’s sole reason for existing, it seems, is to keep a running tally of the body counts in Hollywood films. It has no particular agenda, nor does it appear to cover anything else. It just tallies up body counts. I have no idea why such a site needs to exist, but I’m not really averse to it. Just kind of perplexed. Maybe it’s a handy reference tool for homicidal psychopaths trying to quell their thirst through Netflix.

Anyway, I don’t know how many films are in the database yet, but you can search for a movie based on title, actor, or director. But really, so far the only interesting chart is The 101 Highest Body Count movies. They’re not really surprising, I suppose, but I get a kick out of knowing some poor bastard sat in front of his TV for hours counting dead bodies. You can get the entire list at Movie Body Counts, but here’s the top ten (body count in parenthesis).

1. (836) Lord of the Rings Return of the King)

2. (610) Kingdom of Heaven

3. (600) 300

4. (572) Troy

5. (558) The Last Samurai

6. (468) LotR: Two Towers

7. (310) Grindhouse: Double Feature

8. (307) Hard Boiled

9. (307) Titanic

10. (305) We Were Soldiers
