Movie Stars On TV: Jennifer Connelly Joins TNT's 'Snowpiercer'
Movie stars have been migrating to the comforting confines of episodic entertainment for awhile now. This year alone we’ve seen Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon on HBO’s Big Little Lies and Ewan McGregor tackle two parts on FX’s Fargo. Perhaps it doesn’t hurt that TV shows themselves are taking to adapting films, à la Fargo and the upcoming TNT pilot for Snowpiercer, based on the 2013 movie by Bong Joon-ho (which was based on a French graphic novel - look, there are no new ideas ok?). And now Jennifer Connelly (Labyrinth, Requiem For A Dream) is hopping on that crazy post-apocalyptic train into the frozen wasteland!
According to Deadline, Connelly will be joining Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Black-ish) in the hourlong Snowpiercer pilot, to be directed by Doctor Strange’s Scott Derrickson. Like the movie, the show will revolve around the last remnants of humanity, living on a huge train that is in perpetual motion around a frozen, uninhabitable landscape. Connelly will play Melanie Cavill, the so-called “Voice of the Train” - she makes the daily announcements and such over the PA system. As a First Class passenger, she is removed from the lower classes of the train but also fascinated by them. And given her VIP status, she probably hasn’t had to learn the hard way that babies taste the best.
This marks one of Connelly’s few forays into television, aside from the odd TV Movie and a role in the 2000 Fox drama The $treet.
