No matter how many safeguards or stunt coordinators you have, filming an action movie can be dangerous, which is exactly why movie stars have stunt doubles. Stunt-person injuries don’t often make huge headlines, but they’re more frequent than you might think. For instance, in recent years alone, a stunt-man suffered traumatic brain injuries on Hangover III, a stunt-person was stabbed with a bayonet during Fury, Chloë Grace Moretz’s stunt double cracked her head open on Kick Ass 2, and Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt-double suffered a serious spinal injury filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
This latest is one of the more horrific injuries. Olivia Jackson — who has done stunts for Mad Max and Star Wars: The Force Awakens — collided with a camera crane while performing a motorcycle stunt on the Resident Evil set in South Africa.
According to Kotaku, her injuries included:
— 2 weeks in a coma with a bleeding and swollen brain.
— Severed main artery in the neck.
— Crushed and “degloved” face
— Broken ribs.
— Shattered Scapula.
— Broken Clavicle.
— Broken Humerus.
— Broken Radius & Ulna.
— Amputated thumb.
— Torn fingers.
— Five nerves torn out from her spinal cord.
TK made the mistake of Googling “degloved face.”
“Do not - and I mean DO FUCKING NOT - Google “degloved face” if you ever want to eat or sleep again.”
I’m going to take his word for it, but I’ll give you the link to Google images for the term, anyway, just to see if you can resist the temptation.
Milla Jovovich was not on the set at the time. A month removed from the near-death accident, however, and Olivia Jackson is recovering nicely. Somehow.
