Clearly I don’t have to tell you guys it’s been a rough week. It’s been a really rough week. So let’s all distract ourselves with some casting news from everyone’s favorite prison dramedy Orange Is the New Black. Yes, folks, we’re now at the stage where stories about prison brighten our moods.
This is legitimately great news for fans of Mike Birbiglia though.
The actor-comedian has joined the cast of the critically adored prison dramedy’s third season in a recurring role. The part will remain shrouded in secrecy, which is in keeping with showrunner Jenji Kohan’s philosophy on spoilers. In a recent cover interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kohan would say only that the series’ third season will be “about faith, to a certain extent.”
If you’re unfamiliar with Birbiglia’s work, may I suggest you stop whatever you’re currently doing, and listen to the “Return to the Scene of the Crime” episode of This American Life. And then go watch his movie Sleepwalk With Me where Birbiglia gets to make out with Pajiba fav Lauren Ambrose.
The guy is hysterical, but, if I’m being really honest, I know that I should want to punch him in the face. He could be the kind of unaware, douche bag, man-child that we’ve seen too often. But his insight into his own douche potential saves him from a good face beating, and just make you root for the guy.
