Michael K. Williams Will Be In The Han Solo Movie, Oh Joy!
Once again, Lucasfilm did that thing where they took a picture of a bunch of performers for their Very First Official Cast Announcement Photo, and then went on to hire the exact kind of actors who were missing from the photo to begin with. Which is… good?
Remember that last time, it was only a few weeks after a mostly white, super dude-heavy Force Awakens cast photo that they announced the film would also star Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyongo.
According to Variety, this time around they’re in final talks to add The Wire superstar Michael K. Williams to the Han Solo film (which I have decided to call Han Solo: Space Nazi Puncher for the time being) in a “key role,” thus providing further proof that Lando isn’t the only black man in the galaxy. Unless Williams is an alien, I guess. That’s always possible.
To be fair, Westworld actor Thandie Newton had also been announced as part of the cast when this photo was taken — but she also wasn’t, you know, in it. And listen, I know scheduling is difficult and actors join, work on, and leave projects at very different times than one another, but you’d sort of think that after the Force Awakens fiasco, they would have learned and maybe waited a bit?
Oh well. We’ll always have the Rogue One first look photo.
