With all the fun casting news swirling around Marvel’s upcoming Ant-Man project the big question for true comic book nerds seemed to be this: would Paul Rudd be playing Hank Pym or would be be playing Scott Lang. Both are alter-egos of Ant-Man. We have official confirmation that Michael Douglas will be taking on the role of Pym and Paul Rudd will be playing Lang. Here’s the official press release:
With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves,” said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. “We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.
Rudd works much better as Lang who actually steals the Ant-Man costume and identity from Pym in order to save his daughter. Rudd strikes me much more as the cat burgling type than the scientist type. Some news stories are reporting that Michael Douglas as Hank Pym will be the villain of the story, but I’m not quite sure how they’d make that one work. Fabulously, I imagine.
