The remakes just keep coming, especially on the horror front. So far this year we’ve seen Pet Sematary and Hellboy (sorta horror) hit the big screens and we still have the IT sequel/remake to look forward to before 2019 is done. The Child’s Play remake has largely remained out of the headlines, but now that the voice of the Buddy/Chucky Mark Hamill has shared our first look at the deadly toy, a plot synopsis emerged for us to pick apart.
He’s more than a toy… He’s your best friend! Your first full look at Chucky is here. Don't miss @ChildsPlayMovie, in theaters June 21st. 🔪🔪🔪 #ChildsPlayMovie #TimeToPlay pic.twitter.com/1x6crPIcoY

First of all, that Chucky doll looks quite similar to the original, but less 1980s and more Handsome Jack from the Borderlands franchise with those sharp facial features. It’s unsettling in a way I can’t quite put my finger on, as is the trading of the “y” at the end of “Buddy” for an “i”. I suppose I should be glad the doll’s name isn’t spelled Buddeigh.
A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, CHILD’S PLAY follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
According to some news outlets, the doll is a technologically advanced doll with the capacity to learn, sort of like a Furby but less terrifying. Andy’s Buddi doll has a glitch that allows him to learn more than your average learning computer smushed into a child’s toy, including the ability to stab the life right out of the people around him.
BECAUSE TECHNOLOGY IS SCARY. Of course, I’ll watch the hell of the new Child’s Play, especially with Hamill providing Chucky’s new voice. It remains to be seen if the new twist is enough to get horror fans into theaters on June 21.
