Louis C.K. Returns To Stand-Up (Again) Because Comedy Is Tragedy Plus An Utter Lack Of Self-Awareness

He’s at it again. After his return to the Comedy Cellar ignited fresh outrage and a new wave of #MeToo-related debate and think pieces, Louis C.K. is back again. Sunday night he dropped in to do another unannounced set on another unsuspecting audience, which seems to be this admitted sex offender’s preference.

Page Six reports “A few women walked out. He didn’t address [the #MeToo allegations against him]. He was a little arrogant … he made some comment like, ‘I’ve been off for a while, ‘cause everyone needs a break.’”

“A break.” C.K. was outed for repeatedly masturbating in front of uninterested or nonconsenting female co-workers, and allegedly was part of a blacklisting effort that scared them into silence. And despite his confession (and awful apology) for the former, he’s referring to his time away as “a break.” Because these guys are always fine. Maybe they act remorseful for a minute. Maybe they lose out on some projects. But they’ll come back, and there will always be fans willing to stan and make excuses for them. And so we find another way to tell women and victims of sexual misconduct, in all its forms, they don’t matter as much as us getting to chuckle at the funny creep.

Speaking of, Hollywood Reporter has audio, in which you can hear people cheer and applaud when his name is announced.

Reminder: these people are complicit.

On Twitter, the reception was less welcoming.
