Last night were the SAG awards which happen on a Saturday because I guess they’re the only “big” awards show that has respect for the working individual and/or airs on cable channels that were probably just going to show a three year old movie that night anyway. The awards were notable in that they managed to give statues to more people of color than were even nominated for the top prizes at the Oscars, but since the SAG Awards also include television it’s not exactly a one to one comparison; it’s already been observed that for all the hand-wringing about the difficulty of making diverse movies without sacrificing “realism” or “relatability”, television has quietly been creating dynamic and critically acclaimed roles for people of color for a few years now. It’s still not perfect, but the list of winners here should show that progress has been made in that realm. In particular, both Uzo Aduba and Idris Elba managed to walk out double-fisting awards.
You wait for one bus and TWO come along at the same time. Life innit. @SAGawards Thank you. Saaaaaaaagyyyyyy!! pic.twitter.com/XJvtKqJb7B

I, personally, am happy that Alicia Vikander took home an award, but disappointed that it’s for The Danish Girl rather than Ex-Machina. And I am still trying to find any evidence that Trumbo is an actual film that was made and released and not a hoax being played on us and the various bodies that hand out awards for films. But feelings aside, here is a complete list of the winners and nominees. In addition to what’s listed below, a lifetime achievement award was given to Carol Burnett by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, which was lovely.
