For Gilmore Girls fans, today was a BIG day. News that NEW EPISODES are coming to Netflix may have had you celebrating like
Or maybe like
Or hey, maybe even like
But there was another piece of news that dropped today, which might also excite Gilmore Girls fans. Or Parenthood fans. Or Go Fug Yourself fans. Or general fans of good things happening.
If you’re a fan of Go Fug Yourself (and if you’re not, who are you and where do you spend your time?), you may know that Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, aka The Fug Girls, aren’t just masters of fashion snark, but they are also fiction writers. After writing two YA novels together, their first book for grown-ups, The Royal We, was released earlier this year. And now it’s being optioned for a movie version.
We takes its cues from the real-life courtship of Kate Middleton and Prince William. The story is of an American girl-next-door who moves to England to study at Oxford and falls in love with a fellow student, who happens to be the future King of England. There’s even a red-headed troublemaking brother on one side and a sister on the other. And there’s his need for secrecy, her sudden tabloid fame and the royal family’s many requirements.
Now, like many of you, I never gave a crud about the British Royals until I started visiting GFY. Now, thanks to the Fugs’ framing, I actually have a reaction when Kate wears jeans, and get excited over the little George’s sweater vests. But the most exciting part of this news is who else is onboard. Lauren Graham, who has also recently turned to novel writing, will pen the script, with Mae Whitman reported to star. Both will produce.
On their site, Heather and Jessica say their reaction the news “can be summed up thusly: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
