Joseph Gordon-Levitt Announces His Departure from 'Sandman' Adaptation
Way back in 2013 we announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was working with David Goyer on an adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. Steven was very excited about it. Then we speculated on casting about a year later, specifically the casting of Morpehus. At the time Gaiman stated that “with Joseph Gordon-Levitt in charge, his instincts are good and he loves the material. He wants it to be true to the material.” and that was good news. Things seemed to be going well.
Now it’s been just over a year since our regular yearly update on Sandman and unfortunately the news is not as good this time. At least not if you like Gordon-Levitt and want to see a Sandman movie in the next couple years.
Now, it’s good that there’s not a CONTENTIOUS adaptation of Sandman being made, this means that probably a lot of work will have to be redone and push the project back further. So lets keep crossing our fingers and holding our breath that whoever picks up this adaptation now has the same good instincts and pure intentions that JGL had, and that Gaiman isn’t too busy with the American Gods adaptation to keep checking in.
