I enjoy Jimmy Kimmel Live’s “Lie Witness News” segments — where his staff asks ordinary people their opinions on made-up bands, movies and current events — much more that I probably should. It’s basically just The Tonight Show’s old “Jaywalking” gag repackaged for the social media generation, and it has a tendency to come off mean-spirited at times. That said, no one forces these respondents to lie, and I appreciate that Kimmel builds the joke around the absurd question rather than the clueless answers.

The latest edition, which debuted during last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live: After the Oscars special, features another batch of average citizens inexplicably sharing their thoughts about fabricated films with a total stranger holding a video camera.

Some gems:

Interviewer: What did you think about the controversial moment in Boyhood where they kill the kid right off the bat? Do you think it was right that Ethan Hawke threw him into an active volcano?”
Man: “Well, yes and no. I’m sure there are reasons either way.”

Interviewer: What did you think about that beautiful moment in The Theory of Everything when Eddie Redmayne got out of his wheelchair and punched Albert Einstein in the face?”
Man: That was unbelievable I’m so glad they did that. That was just, like, history in its making. I wish I could have been there to see that.”

Interviewer: “What did you think about Meryl Streep’s performance in Too Stoned to Function?”
Human Pot Plant: [unintelligible mumbling]
Interviewer: “I didn’t understand a word you said.”
Human Pot Plant: [unintelligible laughing]

Highly recommend watching the full three-minute video if for no other reason than to hear that pothead laugh.
