Update: According to E!, which reached out to both HBO and Jessica Chastain’s people, she will not be doing season two of True Detective. This doesn’t necessarily mean that Nerdist was wrong; they only said that she was being offered the role. E! suggests that, whether she was offered it or not, she’s not taking it, probably because — as detailed below — it would present scheduling difficulties.
Jessica Chastain, fresh off the success of Zero Dark Thirty and a string of other films that have elevated her stature, has been offered the lead role in True Detective season two, according to Nerdist.
Recent rumors have stated series creator Nic Pizzolatto was seeking a female-driven cast for Season 2 of the hit HBO series, and now today, Nerdist has learned exclusively one of the names that may be on the bill in 2015: Jessica Chastain.
According to sources, the Zero Dark Thirty actress has been offered a leading role in the second season but has yet to accept. As for official confirmation, we reached out to representatives for Chastain, who have declined to comment at this time.
The important thing to note is that she has not accepted the offer, and with four movies in post-production and another four in pre-production, scheduling Chastain may become a challenge. In either case, it does confirm rumors that Nic Pizzolatto would feature a female lead next season. Who might she be paired up with, if anyone at all? If Pizzolatto re-uses old cast members, perhaps Alexandra Daddario? Or Michelle Monaghan? Or Brad Pitt?
Sadly, it does destroy my hopes of a Godzilla and M.U.T.O. pairing in season two.
