If you haven’t seen last year’s brilliant Blue Ruin, which breathed new life (death) into the revenge genre, kick yourself and get to it. Those who did catch writer/director Jeremy Saulnier’s haunting film won’t soon forget it, and anxiously await his next feature, Green Room. While Blue Ruin’s sparse cast was led by the excellent, virtually unknown Macon Blair (Eve Plumb, aka Jan Brady, made a cameo appearance), Saulnier’s breakthrough film proved he no longer needs Kickstarter funds. For Green Room, the director easily rounded up financing, and a great cast, including Sir Patrick Stewart as the head of a “ferocious” white supremacist group. Stewart’s gang of skinheads traps, and aims to eliminate the members of a punk band who witnessed the Neo-Nazis’ committing a horrific violent act.
Co-starring along with Stewart are…
The ever-adorable, Anton Yelchin:
His female counterpart, Imogen Poots:
Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat:
Mark Webber (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 13 Sins):
and Callum Turner (Glue, Queen and Country):
I can’t even imagine how glorious it’ll be to see Patrick Stewart sink his teeth into this kind of a role — and Yelchin and Poots as members of his vicious group. With a smart, original voice like Saulnier at the helm, Green Room is a 2015 must-see.
