Jeff Bridges Was Not Blown Away By 'R.I.P.D.' Either, Man

I saw a lot of bad movies over the summer (Growns Ups 2, Paranoia, Jobs, The Lone Ranger), and I guess R.I.P.D., which was not the worst of the bunch, still smarted the most given the terrific cast in Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, and Mary Louise Parker (however, the R.I.P.D. review was a fun one to write). There are a lot of things that went wrong with R.I.P.D., which had spent years in development hell before getting the greenlight under Robert Schwentke, who had not really shown a talent for CGI movies in the past. That, really, was the movie’s biggest fault: The CGI was terrible, cartoonish, and silly, and even if the script had been better, the movie couldn’t have been salvaged, even by a scenery-chewing, having-a-blast Jeff Bridges, who Colonel Sanders’d the hell out of that movie.

Anyway, two months after its release, Jeff Bridges tells GQ (via Vulture) that he wasn’t a big fan, either, which makes it one of the quicker turnarounds on actors dissing their own movies.

“I had such a great time working on that movie,” Bridges says. “I remember what we were doing. I thought: This could be fun to see. And when I saw it, I was a little underwhelmed. For my mind, the studio made some, uh, choices that I wouldn’t have made.”

I dunno if the studio was behind the CGI choices, but I seriously doubt there could’ve been a director’s cut that would’ve salvaged R.I.P.D.. It was bad to its core, man.
