The Janis Joplin biopic project has been tossed around for a while, but it appears that it’s finally going to begin shooting next year. It’s been announced that Jean-Marc Vallee will be directing. He previously directed Dallas Buyers Club and Wild.

The project has the working title Get it While You Can and will star Amy Adams as Joplin. In addition to the obvious age difference (Joplin was only 27 when she died, Adams is 40 now) it’s just hard to see the wide-smiling, round-faced singer in Adams. I don’t doubt her enthusiasm, she’s been signed onto the project since 2010 as it searched for a director, but it’s going to take a lot to convince me that she’s the best pick.

For reference, he’s Joplin performing in Germany in 1968.

And one of her about as dolled up as she ever got, on the Dick Cavett show in 1969.
