We’ve known about Rob Thomas’ Veronica Mars spin-off since January of this year, but news has been sparse. Thomas has said that the show, called Play It Again, Dick will focus on Ryan Hansen trying to use his Veronica Mars connections to get his own detective procedural off the ground. He’s also said it will be tonally similar to Party Down, and that’s never a bad thing.
Now, though, it’s been confirmed that pretty much the entire cast of Veronica Mars will return as both their existing characters and versions of themselves.
Here’s who’s involved:
Kristen Bell (VMarz)
Jason Dohring (Logan)
(Hopefully sans ill-fitting uniform)
Percy Daggs III (Wallace)
Enrico Colantoni (Keith Mars)
Francis Capra (Weevil)
Ken Marino (Vinnie Van Lowe)
Kyle Gallner (Beaver)
Daran Norris (Cliff)
Christopher B. Duncan (Clarence Wiedman)
Ryan Devlin (Our new Duncan Kane)
Yes, Ryan Devlin has been upgraded from Hearst College rapist to Donut replacement.
Unlike the other characters, Chris Lowell will only be playing himself, not reviving his Veronica Mars role. I guess Ryan Hansen is strongly anti-Team Piz as well.
Amanda Noret (Madison Sinclair)
Unlike Chris Lowell, Amanda Noret will ONLY be playing Madison in the show-within-a-show, not a version of herself. We’re entering the meta deep end here.
Lisa Thornhill (Celeste Kane)
And the same goes for Thornhill. We’ll only be seeing her as Celeste (with her replacement son, I assume).
Of course, this isn’t the entire cast. There is at least one hugely glaring omission.
The eight-episode season has finished filming(!), and will premiere on CW Seed on September 15th.
