When I was in college I had a good friend who was trying to get me into comics, which I was stubbornly resisting. Finally, he insisted I read one that piqued my interest, and ending up igniting in me a love of the entire genre. That series, Alias, was impossible not to love. It focused on Jessica Jones, a foul-mouthed, deadpan superhero-turned-private eye. That comic, the first I ever read, holds a special place in my heart, so I’ve been taking all the news surrounding Netflix’s upcoming Jessica Jones series VERY seriously.

When the casting shortlist was being circulated last week, one name immediately jumped out as perfect: Krysten Ritter. Yes, we could do with more Alexandra Daddario on our TVs, but Ritter has the assets this character requires. This is a character who, when we meet her in Alias, is sitting on a toilet, doing her business.

She has a hell of a foul mouth.

She has no patience for ANYONE.

There are bound to be flashbacks to her ditzier, more naive, and more glamorous days as “Jewel,”

Which we know she can do.

But she also has to be able to pull off a more slovenly, made-under post-super version.

And let there be no doubt about it, Jessica Jones is also incredibly sexy. With super sexy times starring Luke Cage.

Job well done, Netflix. Now who have you got for Power Man?
