Once upon a time there was a short film that transplanted the comedic stylings of Woody Allen into the post-apocalypse and starred Judd Apatow stalwarts Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen. It was called Jay and Seth vs. The Apocalypse. Some time later, it was announced there would be a feature length take on the material, only that movie would be retitled, simply The Apocalypse, and would star quite a few more celebrities that the former titular two. Now, it looks like that movie has been renamed the vaguely less-abrasive, slightly more-eloquent The End of the World, and the first behind-the-scenes images of the Hollywood party that serves as the surely-to-be-epic comedy’s beginning have surfaced online.
It looks like everyone that’s been ">announced can be seen in the three shots below, as well as a couple surprises that will always be pleasant:
Yep, that’s Paul Rudd, James Franco, Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, Jason Segel, Michael Cera, (apparently, in the tan jacket) Jonah Hill, and (your eyes do not deceive you) Emma Watson and Rihanna all reacting to what must be the start of, well, the end of the world. Yes, Hermione and Rihanna are the pleasant surprises, so here’s hoping they last longer than whatever is happening in that second image. Rihanna even tweeted about her experience shooting the Armageddon:
Just leaving set! Kevin Hart clearly has childhood issues! Lolololol ! This has to be one of my favorite moments in life #endoftheworld — @rihanna, June 1, 2012
This movie isn’t due out until next June, but I’m endlessly delighted it’s even being made. So I really hope we get a trailer before the end of the year. Until then, as we’re obligated to share every time we write about this project, there’s still the original trailer parody:
Rob Payne also writes the comic The Unstoppable Force, tweets on the Twitter @RobOfWar, and his wares can be purchased here and here (if you’re into that sort of thing). He’s proud that he made it through this entire post without mentioning the 2012 Mayan Apocalypse… Oh, motherfu—
