We asked nicely, Pizzolatto, but you never answered the call. No worries; it looks like David E. Kelly (Boston Legal, The Practice, Ally McBeall) has us covered. The longtime television writer/producer is adapting Liane Moriarty’s bestseller, Big Little Lies to the small screen, and he’s snagged a couple of A-list actresses to star.
Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will play two of three upper middle class mothers with kids who attend the same preschool. Celeste “is a great beauty married to a fabulously rich businessman; they have a ‘perfect’ set of twins.” Madeline “is the can-do mom who can put together a mean pre-school art project but can’t prevent her teenage daughter from preferring her divorced dad.” Honestly, they couldn’t have picked two more perfect actresses for these roles — I’d choose Witherspoon as the twins’ mom, and let’s hope Nicole goes full To Die For.) Jane, the third “withdrawn, doesn’t-quite-fit-in” mother is yet to be cast.) The night of a Trivia fundraiser, the three ladies become involved in a murder plot; throw in secrets, lies and you’ve got a wicked fun black comedy a la FX’s Fargo.
Moriarty will serve as producer on the limited series which is being shopped to the likes of HBO, Netflix, Showtime, etc. May the best network win, and hurry please! I’m ready to watch right now.
Hey Reese, bring the dog!
