Director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, “La Femme Nikita”) has found a lovely and captivating young lady to head up his latest feature, which is based on a French/Belgian comic. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec stars Louise Bourgoin as a feisty investigative journalist who jumps into the middle of a whirlwind fantasy, that involves pterodactyls and a creepy man who more than resembles Raiders of the Lost Ark’s Major Toht. The adventure, set in 1912, follows Adele from Egypt as she has been searching for a particular mummy she intends to revive (to help her ailing sister), back to her Paris home, where another long dead creature has been brought back to life. The trailer has one NSFW boob shot:
The film looks like an engaging fantasy and the time is ripe for a female Indy. Hell, the time is ripe for any sort of great adventure film and Bourgoin’s performance has been roundly praised by those who have seen it during 2010 festivals. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec also stars Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace, Mesrine: Public Enemy #1, Munich), Philippe Nahon (Irreversable) and Jean-Paul Rouve (La Vien en Rose) and will be released in the UK April 14th, 2011. Hopefully, we in the U.S. won’t be far behind.
Finally, here’s the cool, just released poster that does a fine job of capturing the film’s vibe:
