Two different Jungle Book movies have been in development for quite a while, though one has been seriously dominating, publicity-wise. The Disney adaptation, which is being directed by Jon Favreau, has been steadily releasing news of its cast, which now includes Bill Murray, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba, Ben Kingsley, Giancarlo Esposito, and Christopher Walken. Impressive, no? But there was was one person Favreau didn’t have, and he’s just been picked up by Warner Brothers.
With Cumberbatch playing Shere Khan, Warner Brothers is back in this game. The film, titled Jungle Book: Origins, has gone through a few directors (last was Ron Howard, with Alejandro Gonzalez before him) before finally settling on Andy Serkis. Serkis, of course, is planning to make great use of the motion capture techniques he’s so known for. Which means we should be preparing ourselves for more of this:
With Idris Elba playing Shere Khan in the rival film, this has to be some sort of Kipling conspiracy to instill in humanity a universal attraction to tigers, right?
