In Soviet Russia, Siri Is Homophobic As F*ck

You know those delightful stories about how some clever Apple techs built fun phrases into Siri’s software so that she can review movies and scare you about becoming a sentient A.I. that could conquer the world? This isn’t one of those.

THR reports that the Russian version of Siri is homophobic, refusing to answer questions about where to find a gay bar or register for gay marriage. Instead, Siri called the asker rude, threatened to blush, or ignored him completely. Most damning, Siri responds, “I believe this emotion should be considered negative,” and “You are swearing obscenities and then you’re going to eat with these very hands!”

You can see for yourself in the video below:

Apple’s response to this is to claim that they didn’t program a bigoted Siri. This is just a “bug” that has since been fixed. Sure. It’s a bug and has nothing to do with the intense homophobia running rampant in Russia that Apple maybe wanted to appeal to to better sell their products. Nope. It’s a bug. A homophobic glitch.
