Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Henry Cavill was on his way out as Superman in the DCEU. Apparently, he balked at appearing in Shazaam, and with the DC Universe seemingly moving ahead with a Supergirl film, Cavill’s services are not needed in the immediate future, so D.C. is gonna D.C. and Cavill is going to Cavill (and by that, I mean, star in a new Netflix series). Also, allegedly, DC is eyeing Michael B. Jordan as its next Superman way on down the road.
None of this has been confirmed, of course, by either Warner Brothers or Cavill himself, although Henry Cavill took to Instagram last night to comment? Deny? Confirm? Confound? Use performance art as a statement?
Honestly, I have no idea what Cavill is trying to say here, but I kind of love it.
The music is “Blue Danube,” most famous for its use in 2001: Space Odyssey and also that Bugs Bunny cartoon. He’s wearing a Krypton Lifting Team T-shirt, which means … I have no idea. Maybe it’s all a metaphor for the rise and fall of Superman. Or maybe he’s telling the world that from now on, he’s going to date women in the same age bracket.
I do want to commend him for this: He doesn’t blink once in that entire video. That’s dedication to the craft.
