Is This A Real Movie Or A Pajiba Dream Come To Life?
I’ve not been sleeping well lately. Blame all the horror movies I’m bingeing. Or that daily life has become a hellscape of bad news then worse news. Blame that I’ve been crashing hard after guzzling hot chocolate. It doesn’t matter. Very vivid dreams all night long means my waking hours have a wobbliness to them. So, I report this news of a totally real movie, being not totally sure it is real.
THR reports two Pajiba favorites have joined forces: Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton. Right there you’re sold, right? These two are so versatile and alluring, they could literally do a movie about paint drying or napping in a museum display and you’d go, right? It gets better.
This movie is George Miller’s, the mad mastermind behind Mad Max: Fury Road. And it gets stranger. Called Three Thousand Years of Longing, aka Djinn, it’s an epic romance with a genie involved. And as Tori pointed out in our Slack, with Elba and Swinton as the leads we don’t actually know who might play the genie!
The only less-than-enchanting news is that Three Thousand Years of Longing, aka Djinn isn’t a done deal. With Elba and Swinton attached, Miller begins the sometimes soul-crushing journey of securing financing or a studio that will back his mad dream. In his corner are the six Oscars Mad Max: Fury Road won, but working against him is its domestic box office take, which was barely more than its production budget. So, we wish Miller luck as he shops this magical romance at next week’s American Film Market.
