There is hope on the horizon, and it comes in the shape of the Big Blue Bug Of Justice. Yes, that’s right, news is that Amazon has penned a deal to not only bring back the live-action version of “The Tick” to television — or rather, computer — screens, but that Patrick Warburton will be reprising the titular role.
For those who don’t know, “The Tick” was a short-lived TV series in the 90’s that ran for a paltry 9 episodes. It was nine of the greatest episodes in history, and I say that with absolutely zero hyperbole (there was also a longer-lived animated run which was a bit different, but equally excellent). Based on the series written for New England Comics, it features a strange, rather dim-witted superhero who is never seen out of costume, and who no one knows anything about. Even his powers are a bit of a mystery. He spends most of his time with a trio of other heroes, solving relatively mundane problems, and is goddamn hilarious. I couldn’t be happier with this news.
While Amazon has yet to confirm the series’s resurrection, People.com is reporting that it’s a done deal.
That said, all of this will be moot if we don’t get the original cast back. Most importantly, I must have Batmanuel back in my life.
