Hallelujah, the Real Luther Is Back!

Only a day after hearing that Fox is working on an Americanized Luther, BBC America has jumped in and announced the original BBC series will return in 2015 — with Idris Elba. A two-part miniseries will finish out the detective’s story. I can only assume Luther series creator and writer Neil Cross heard our cries of dismay yesterday:

“Ever since we said goodbye to John Luther on Southwark Bridge, there’s hardly been a minute when I didn’t wonder what happened next…So I decided to find out. We’re putting the band back together; Luther is coming back where he belongs. Back to the BBC. Back to London. And back to work.”

No word yet on whether Ruth Wilson’s Alice Morgan will return (she has to), but presumably she can shoot scenes while The Affair is on haitus.

Production begins in London next March.
