If you haven’t seen the first season of Top of the Lake, you should. Directed by Jane Campion, it’s The Killing (when it was good) crossed with Twin Peaks, a moody, strange potential murder mystery that unfolds slowly and beautifully, starring Elisabeth Moss and Holly Hunter.
It’s been three years since the first season of the series, and a second is finally coming our way. Elisabeth Moss will be back, and there’ll be another murder mystery, this one involving an Asian girl who washes up on to Sydney’s Bondi Beach. According to the BBC, “The case seems hopeless, until detective Robin Griffin (Moss) discovers that China Girl didn’t die alone.”
Oh and one other thing: Gwendoline Christie has been added to the cast.
Not bad, huh?
In unrelated casting news, Margot Robbie is also now attached (and will produce) as the lead in I, Tonya, the story of Tonya Harding. Harding, of course, was the first American woman to complete the triple axel, but was banned from ice skating for life after she arranged to have her husband, Jeff Gillooly, and a couple of thugs attempt to break Nancy Kerrigan’s leg to keep her out of the competition. It didn’t work. Kerrigan won the Silver Medal.
Gilooly has yet to be cast, but I’m thinking Scoot McNairy, all the way.
