Between Orange Is The New Black, Bloodline, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Jessica Jones and Making a Murderer, Netflix has been positively slaying with original series. And the streaming service has hooked younger Netflixxers by distributing DreamWorks Animation productions like The Adventures of Puss in Boots, Dinotrux and Dragons: Race to the Edge. The success on both fronts has spurred a deal expansion that will not only mean more eps of DWA shows as well as a reboot of Voltron, but also (squee!) a new cartoon “shepherded” by visionary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.
Variety reports the animated series called Trollhunters “will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around two best friends who make a startling discovery beneath their hometown.”
Considering DWA’s key demographic is children, kids will likely be the audience Trollhunters will be made to attract. But considering GdT’s penchant for gonzo spectacle and bonkers storytelling, you better bet we’ll be binging this one.
In the meantime, I’m using the very mention of troll hunting as an excuse to revisit the unrelated but sensational Norwegian horror-mockumentary Trollhunter. I recommend you do the same. Naturally, it’s streaming on Netflix now.
