Is Hawkeye finally going to get more screentime? In a recent interview with Collider, Jeremy Renner hinted that if his busy schedule allows, Clint Barton may be making an appearance in Captain America 3. Even more interesting, directors Anthony and Joe Russo also had a little something to say about the rumor.
During his Shoot the Messenger interview, Renner said, “There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man…I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.” (Renner’s dance card is fairly full.)
Superherohype decided it couldn’t hurt to ask the Russo brothers for a comment; they were right. While Anthony played coy, Joe was a little more forthcoming:
Anthony: “Unfortunately we can’t (comment)…It’s too specific to what the movie may be.”
Joe: “There are certainly characters that Cap is close to or has a strong relationship with that would make sense appearing in his films. I think that’s all we can say about it.”
There you have it, folks. It looks like maybe we’ll get to see Hawkeye working alongside Cap a la Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Since he’s the one Avengers character who always seems to be in the background, it’d be nice if Renner’s role is expanded.
Captain America 3 is being scripted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and it’s set for a May 6, 2016 release.
