Finally! Looks like Gillian Anderson’s Dr. Bedelia Du Maurier will be a prominent Hannibal character next season. After *Season 2 finale SPOILERS ahead* — run now if you’re not caught up — “escaping” with Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal at the end of “Mizumono,” Season 3 will pick up about a year later, and feature an opening episode that revolves only around the pair (more season 3 details at that link). Bryan Fuller says it’ll feel like “a pilot for a new series starring Mads Mikkelsen and Gillian Anderson.” Though perhaps she’s the only person as cool-mannered and unreadable as Hannibal himself, the last expression we saw on Bedelia’s face seemed to indicate she wasn’t exactly thrilled to be jetting off with Dr. Lecter…was maybe even a little frightened.
Fuller made the following announcement today:
“”The cast and crew of Hannibal are positively giddy to be welcoming Gillian to Season 3 as a series regular. A striking presence on stage and screen, she brings wit, grace and intelligence to every role she embodies. Screenwriting is so much easier when you’re inspired by a great actor and Gillian has filled the Hannibal writers’ room with wonderful inspiration. I can’t wait for audiences to see her make a bigger meal out of the Cannibal than ever before.”
After a second season that was almost impossibly better than the first, I’m looking forward to whatever Fuller writes for Anderson; my faith in him is that great.
Cindy Davis, (Twitter) misses her boys.
