Grace Randolph Calls Out Disney for 'Race-Bending' After Casting Tessa Thompson in 'Lady & the Tramp'
I have never heard of Grace Randolph before today, and my first thought after watching the below video was that she was a random YouTube nutter.
She is not.
She hosts three YouTube channels, including “Beyond the Trailer,” which has over 750,000 followers, and she has over 50,000 followers on Twitter, which means she is far more popular than we are. She is also not a rando: She went to Tisch, and she is a former member of the Upright Citizens Brigade; she’s written a comic, Grace Randolph’s Supurbia and her YouTube channel is owned by Penske Media (which also owns Deadline, Variety, and TVLine).
And to be fair to her before I throw her under the bus here, I clicked on a few of her other videos, and aside from being somewhat obnoxious, I didn’t see anything outright offensive in my admittedly very cursory examination (in fact, she called out Disney not only for casting a straight actor, Jack Whitehall, to play a gay character on Jungle Cruise, but for creating a gay stereotype in the character in the first place.
But then, this:

Grace Randolph: “SJW Disney is RACE BENDING DOGS! Too much change!” pic.twitter.com/1WiAJpgn1V
You can’t race bend a dog! A cocker spaniel does not belong to any particular race. Is Grace Randolph saying that she has a preference so strong for the voice of a dead white lady (Barbara Luddy, RIP) that casting Tessa offends her sense of … hearing? Are her ears racist? Same thing with Darling, who will be played by Kiersey Clemons, which is “too much change” for Randolph. She also takes issue with the race-bending of Bull, who will be played by B.D. Wong, even though Bull barely had a role in the original film (he’s expected to take on a larger role here). The SJWs have ruined Disney!
But then again, Grace Randolph is the same woman who recently suggested that only women quit social media and that Ruby Rose should “suck it up,” and that she deserves the harassment she received for her performance in The Meg.
I remember when Grace Randolph was anti- Gone Girl cuz it portrayed women as “all being crazy” (you know, instead of being a great crime thriller written by an intelligent woman) and now she’s all like “Ruby Rose, Kelly Marie Tran, etc. brought their harassment on themselves.— Nolan Dean (@nolandean27) August 15, 2018
It’s nice to have someone new to revile today.
